Safeguarding and Attendance Officer (DDSL) job summary
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, conscientious Safeguarding and Attendance Officer, who, under the direction of the Vice Principal, and day to day guidance of the Designated Safeguarding Lead, will ensure effective safeguarding in the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and work closely the attendance team.
Working 37 hours per week, term time only - (hours to be between 8.00am – 4.00pm Monday to Friday) Including working 2 out of 5 INSET days each academic year as directed, with availability to work any or all of remaining 3 INSET days at short notice should the need arise, and for which additional payment will be made.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the safeguarding, pastoral and attendance teams to drive higher attendance and ensure the safety and welfare of children in our care. The post is suitable for someone with experience working with secondary-aged in a pastoral, safeguarding and/or attendance capacity, who is able to demonstrate the positive impact they have had on the educational lives of young people and supported them to achieve their full potential.
The successful candidates will:
- Work with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in all matters related to safeguarding, and act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL)
- Work with the Attendance Officer, EWOs and other colleagues to drive student attendance up, providing targeted support to identified students
- Provide pastoral support to identified students
- To carry out duties/patrol, as required
- To liaise and seek involvement as appropriate from parents/carers, teachers, inclusion staff and other agencies in relation to the welfare of students.
- Contribute, as required, to consultation evenings, staff meetings, assemblies, celebration evenings and other activities
- Monitor student attendance, punctuality, praise and cause for concern in line with ‘Code of conduct’, ‘Behaviour and Attendance’ and all other relevant policies, and ensure appropriate action is taken when required
- Create a positive climate where students can achieve and reach their full potential
- Monitoring of students during the school lunchtime period
- Be well-motivated, professional and flexible

You will be based at Aston Academy, however the role may, on occasion, involve working at other academies within the trust.

Successful candidates will be subject to a DBS check at the appropriate level. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a self-declaration related to their criminal record or any information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. Additional checks in relation to the Childcare Disqualification Regulations will be undertaken for successful candidates to junior academies.
