What skills and experience we're looking for

St Teresa of Calcutta Academy Trust Central Team are currently seeking a Safeguarding Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Trust at the beginning of a journey of transition, development, and growth within the multi-academy trust.

The Safeguarding Officer will work under the direction of the Head of Safeguarding to provide both strategic and operational support, ensuring consistently high standards of safeguarding practice across all Trust schools. The postholder will play a key role in helping schools meet statutory requirements and prepare for Ofsted inspections by conducting safeguarding audits, supporting action planning, and delivering tailored training and briefings. They will provide expert advice to Designated Safeguarding Leads and senior staff, supporting the development and implementation of Trust-wide policies and procedures in line with current legislation and best practice. The Safeguarding Officer will also contribute to the creation of resources and toolkits, coach and mentor DSLs—particularly those new to the role—and maintain accurate records to support accountability and continuous improvement in safeguarding performance.

  • Relevant safeguarding qualification (e.g. level 3 or above)
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead training, or equivalent standard
  • Evidence of undertaking other relevant training in safeguarding, child protection and/or mental health
  • Experience of working as a DSL or in a safeguarding leadership role within a school, academy trust or local authority environment.
  • Knowledge of Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework and its safeguarding requirements
  • Ability to manage complex safeguarding concerns and work with multi-agency partners and other stakeholders
