Safeguarding Support Officer job summary

Safeguarding Support Officer

£28,761-£33,167 per annum, full-time, term time only plus 1 week

Are you passionate about safeguarding and making a real difference to the lives of young people? Are you highly organised, discreet, and confident working with sensitive information in a fast-paced school environment?

If so, then we want to hear from you!

Lytham St Annes High School (LSA) is looking for a committed and capable Safeguarding Support Officer to join our dedicated safeguarding team. This is a vital non-teaching role where you’ll work closely with the Child Protection Lead, Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Senior Leadership Team to keep safeguarding strong, consistent and at the heart of everything we do.

You’ll be right in the thick of things, playing a key operational role in the day-to-day coordination of safeguarding across the school. As a Deputy DSL and trusted point of contact, you’ll support staff, pupils, families and external agencies, helping to ensure concerns are identified early, handled appropriately and recorded accurately - so every child gets the right support at the right time.

This is a permanent, full-time role, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, during term time plus one week for INSET and additional duties.

You’ll bring experience from a safeguarding, child protection or compliance role (ideally within education), along with a solid understanding of safeguarding legislation. Organised, detail-focused and calm under pressure, you’ll be confident handling sensitive information with discretion and care. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability to build trusting professional relationships while exercising empathy and sound judgement.

A day in your new role could see you:

  • Acting as a first point of contact for safeguarding concerns and queries from staff
  • Supporting the Child Protection Lead and DSL with safeguarding and child protection cases
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential safeguarding records
  • Coordinating Early Help Assessments and liaising with families and external agencies
  • Monitoring safeguarding training, Prevent duty compliance and safeguarding audits
  • Supporting information sharing with the local authority and partner agencies
  • Ensuring safeguarding procedures, policies and statutory requirements are followed
  • Helping to promote a strong culture of safeguarding and vigilance across the school

Apply now and help keep safeguarding strong, every single day!
