Apprentice Teacher - Salaried Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship with QTS
Train to Teach with Great Schools Trust
Great Schools Trust is seeking ambitious graduates and career changers to join us as Apprentice Teachers from September 2026.
This is a salaried teacher training route through the Secondary Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship with QTS. You will be employed by Great Schools Trust while training in one of our academies, gaining practical classroom experience, expert mentoring and high-quality professional development.
We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with strong subject knowledge in:
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
We also have a small number of places available in:
Computing, Design Technology, Food and Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish or Arabic)
This is an exciting opportunity for people who want to become excellent teachers in a high-expectations, values-led trust where character, leadership and academic excellence matter.
About the role
As an Apprentice Teacher, you will train while working in one of our secondary academies. You will gradually build your teaching practice through a structured programme of school-based training, mentoring, professional study and classroom experience.
You will be supported to develop the knowledge, skills and habits needed to become an effective classroom teacher. This will include planning and delivering lessons, using assessment to support pupil progress, establishing strong classroom routines, contributing to academy life and meeting the expectations of the apprenticeship and teacher training programme.
The attached candidate guide provides further information about the training route, support available, eligibility requirements and what it means to train with Great Schools Trust.
We are looking for candidates who:
- Have a degree relevant to the subject they wish to teach
- Have strong subject knowledge, particularly in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry
- Are passionate about helping young people succeed
- Believe that all pupils can achieve, regardless of background or starting point
- Are resilient, reflective and willing to learn
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and high personal standards
- Can commit fully to the demands of a salaried teacher training route
- Meet the right to work, residency and apprenticeship funding eligibility requirements
Previous experience working with young people is helpful, but it is not essential. We are looking for people with the right values, subject expertise and potential to become excellent teachers.
What we offer
- A salaried route into teaching
- Training leading to recommendation for QTS
- Expert mentoring and school-based support
- Trust-wide professional development
- Experience in a high-performing, values-led academy culture
- A clear focus on classroom routines, behaviour, curriculum and pupil progress
- The opportunity to begin a long-term teaching career within Great Schools Trust
Not quite ready for teacher training?
We know that some graduates and career changers may be passionate about teaching but not yet feel ready to move straight into formal teacher training. If that sounds like you, Great Schools Trust also offers Graduate Teacher Scholar roles at regular points throughout the academic year, please see our Great Schools Trust website for any potential opportunities currently.
These roles provide an excellent first year of school-based experience, support and development before progressing into teacher training in year two. This is a route that Great Schools Trust fully supports for candidates who want to build confidence, develop classroom experience and prepare carefully for a future career in teaching.
