School Admin Manager job summary
Term Time plus 20 days (42 weeks per year), 37 hours per week, some hybrid working would be considered
The Admin Manager is a key operational role within the school, working closely with the Finance and Business Manager you will run the Administration function of the school and lead our Business Support Team. In this individual we are looking for drive and determination, someone who is proactive, a self-starter, who is enthusiastic and thrives in a busy environment. Because of the nature of the work involved, we need someone who understands the importance of sensitivity and confidentiality as you will be working with a range of stakeholders.
As Admin Manager you will be responsible for a wide range of administrative tasks. Key areas include PA support to Deputy and Assistant Headteachers, planning and delivery of events and trips, communications (written and verbal) and responsibility for upkeep of student records. The successful candidate will have a calm and professional manner even in the most challenging of situations – a high level of organisational skills is essential.
As part of the role, you will manage the Business Support Officers to ensure a smooth and efficient service. This is an extremely fast-paced and varied role where no two days are the same, this will suit someone who enjoys a challenge and can quickly adapt their way of working in response to each task.
An excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience of managing people, processes and procedures is essential.
All staff at Spen Valley are actively seen to support students and their families, all staff must implement our relationship policy and show our students and families respect and kindness in line with our charter.
Our school:
We are an oversubscribed, 11-16 comprehensive school situated in North Kirklees, West Yorkshire. Having been awarded ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in March 2022, we continue to build upon our many strengths and to develop a truly coherent and high-quality provision for our students. In this role you will work alongside a team of highly professional & dedicated staff, who are welcoming, courageous, open-minded, and supportive.
What makes Spen Valley High School different?
We are proud to be a Trauma Informed School and are looking for someone who fully supports our vision and approach. We have a significant number of students in our school with complex backgrounds. These young people not only require, but deserve courageous and resilient staff who can effectively support students to navigate their way through the challenges they face. We make no excuses about our approach; but this is not about ‘dumbing down’, far from it, we want colleagues with high expectations, who will help students to regulate their own behaviours, by providing outstanding support and developing strong relationships. We require someone with good emotional intelligence and who will show warmth, compassion and empathy to all our students.
Regardless of the role, we expect all of our staff to be a Students Coach/Co-Coach and engage with our students through their enthusiasm; someone who will inspire them beyond the curriculum, encourage them to develop all aspects of themselves, so that they can stand ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with any other young person, from any other background. We want someone who enjoys working with young people, who believes it is a privilege to be a part of their journey into adulthood, and who will show them unconditional positive regard. We want someone who is both emotionally and physically resilient so they provide continuity and consistency for our students; someone who displays ‘botheredness’ and visible kindness.
We pride ourselves on being ethical leaders and leading with integrity. When joining Spen Valley you are entering an environment that balances professional challenge with support and kindness. We expect our colleagues to work hard, and go the ‘extra mile’ for our students, but in doing so we recognise that additional support is sometimes necessary and our Trauma Informed and relational approach extends to the way we work with our staff. We offer a wide range of CPD opportunities, including a bespoke CPD package that genuinely meets the needs of each colleague. As a member of the Red Kite Teaching Alliance, we receive high-quality support, advice and training and work closely with colleagues from some of the most successful schools in Yorkshire. We encourage our staff not only in their involvement in various activities throughout the school, but also to be proactive and develop new and fresh ideas to engage and enthuse both our staff and students.
Staff Benefits include:
- Employee Assistance Programme (includes, physio, men's mental health, menopause support, 24 hour GP service and much more)
- Access to bespoke CPD programme
- Support through Coaching (where applicable)
- The opportunity to work with colleagues and specialist support across the Red Kite Teaching School Hub
- West Yorkshire Pension Fund
- Staff supervision (counselling & support services)
- Varied Wellbeing Activities
- Menopause support
- Kirklees Vivup Scheme (saving money on shopping, days out, entertainment etc)
- Bluelight Membership
