Role Summary

The purpose of this vital role is to organise, maintain, and monitor the School's personnel systems and manage office functions to ensure an effective service to the School. The School Business Manager is also responsible for line managing administrative staff and the site manager, ensuring resources are deployed effectively and efficiently to support the work of the school.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

As the School Business Manager, you will be crucial to the school's effective operation across several key areas:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Plan and manage change in line with MAT policy and the school's strategic plan.
  • Attend senior management/leadership team and appropriate CFO/Headteacher meetings.
  • Be responsible for the effective management of financial internal control procedures and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Line manage administrative staff and the site manager, including recruitment, induction, appraisal, and training for these staff.

Personnel & HR

  • Manage HR contracts and payroll changes, and be responsible for monthly salary control.
  • Undertake personnel administration, including SCR and DBS checks, and managing all new starter paperwork.
  • Coordinate staff sickness and HR support, and manage recruitment and staff appointments.

.Administration & Resource

  • Manage the administrative function, including ICT facilities, school reception, and records.
  • Be responsible for the Workforce Census and assist the Headteacher in updating the school risk register.
  • Liaise and negotiate with suppliers, monitor external contracts, and oversee central resources management.

️ Compliance

  • Effectively manage GDPR in line with legislation and oversee the audit process.
  • Coordinate PAT testing and manage contractor relationships.
  • Update the business plan and critical incident plan annually, and provide support for Health and Safety regulations.

Revenue Generation

  • Identify and seek new methods of income generation to fund the school’s proposed activities.
  • Actively promote the marketing of the school and its resources to maximise income through external funding, sponsorship, and lettings.
  • Prepare bids for funding and monitor the effectiveness of funding agreements
