School Business Manager job summary

Northgate School is a successful outstanding special school in Northampton, serving children and young people aged between 11 and 18. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan. The school caters for a range of complex needs in particular:

  • Moderate learning difficulties
  • Autism
  • Speech, Language and Communication difficulties

Whilst we recognise that our children and young people have special educational needs we also work hard to recognise and celebrate and build upon their strengths and encourage them to be 'their best self'.

We are currently seeking to recruit a School Business Manager to work at our Northgate site.


Knowledge Experience and Training

1. The BM will have a Certificate/Diploma of School Business Management or equivalent accountant and/or management experience in education and business environments.

2. The BM will have relevant and proven experience in a financial setting and proven ability/experience to undertake the following tasks:

Budget Management – Accounts, specifically Academy related etc

People/Team management and supervision

Planning and managing resources

Business administration and office management

Excellent communication and presentation skills

Able to work on own initiative with good time management and organisational skills and able to adjust to working individually or in a team environment

Able to keep abreast of latest developments in education and policies and procedures related to education, health and safety, child protection and HR.

An awareness and understanding of special needs and the consequences encountered.

3. The BM will have a valid Safeguarding Training certificate including safer recruitment.
