School Caretaker job summary

Job title: School Caretaker

Hours: 15 hours per week, 3pm-6pm (Daily)

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed individual who will help maintain our school site, ensure the school premises and facilities are presented and maintained to the highest standards and to work with the cleaning team and the trust. Previous experience in a school environment would be an advantage but not essential. Overtime may be available from time to time, depending on the needs of the school, events planned and time of year.

Key tasks will include:

  • Take a proactive role in identifying and implementing improvements to the site and security including the perimeter fence.

  • Supervising the work of contractors on site. General porterage, furniture, equipment and room set up.

  • Have an understanding of Health and Safety within the school environment or be willing to learn.

  • Site cleaning and working alongside the cleaning team.

  • General site maintenance for example; checking fire doors; window cleaning, water and gas readings; hanging display boards; painting classrooms.

  • Monitoring of planned maintenance, site maintenance, weekly checks and repairs through the online system - i Am Compliant. Training will be provided on how to use the online system.

  • Ground maintenance for example cleaning gutters and drains, checking play equipment.

  • Good communication skills, the ability to work effectively with others in school and to work without direct supervision is essential.

  • Working alongside the trust estate managers, school business manager and office manager to ensure high standards and best value are met.

  • Some computer based training and work will be required.

  • Personal qualities required; a flexible attitude, willingness to undertake practical tasks, a commitment to high standards and attention to detail.
