What skills and experience we're looking for

We wish to appoint as lay chaplain a practising Catholic with the appropriate skills and personal qualities to work with all members of our school community, supporting us in our journey of faith and helping us to put our mission statement into practice in our Work, Worship and Relationships.

St Thomas More is an oversubscribed school, has an excellent reputation and is recognised for the quality of education, achievement, and our commitment to developing people at all levels. It serves the whole of North Tyneside and the Tynemouth Priory Partnership and has a strong, genuinely comprehensive intake.

We are seeking to appoint someone to build on existing practice, to bring new ideas and approaches, and to help define and develop the role to meet the needs of our school community.

Our recruitment process is via the online portal eteach. If you would like to arrange a visit prior to an application or for any further information or queries contact Catherine Palgrave, Headteacher's PA.

The Local Governing Committee is committed to safeguarding and the protection of its pupils. The post is subject to an Enhanced DBS and social media check.

Closing date: 9.00am Monday 30th June 2025

Interviews: Thursday 10th July 2025

St Thomas More Catholic High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. In accordance with the safeguarding vulnerable groups’ regime [2006] & the relevant Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) DfE guidance, any offer of employment made will be conditional upon the results of checks from the Disclosure & Barring Service (“the DBS”) and Teacher Services (regarding teacher prohibition/disqualication from working with children and young people). School roles give privileged access to vulnerable groups, therefore, we require all applicants attending interview to disclose all spent convictions and cautions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 unless it is a “protected” conviction/caution under the amendments made to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 (in 2013) and, therefore, not subject to disclosure. An online search will take place on shortlisted candidates as part of the recruitment process and inline with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024 guidance.
