Overview and Responsibilities
School Cleaner – Aurora Keyes Barn School
Location: Preston, PR4 0YH
Salary: £12.71 - £13.22 /hr
Hours: 2 hours daily, Monday to Friday. Either 6am-8am or 4pm-6pm (we can be flexibile if you prefer morning or afternoon)
Contract Type: Permanent, 10 hours per week, Term time only
Aurora Keyes Barn School
We’re currently looking for a part time Cleaner to join our housekeeping team. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the school.
The Aurora Group is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.
We are looking to recruit a Cleaner to join our team within our calm and nurturing environment at Aurora Keyes Barn School. We are a 'Good' rated specialist provider of education and care, supporting boys aged 5 - 12 who face challenges associated with additional social, emotional and mental health needs.
Key Duties:
- Cleaning all surfaces, walls, internal woodwork, fixtures and fittings as appropriate.
- Dusting and polishing.
- Maintaining clean and sanitised kitchenette areas, within the classrooms.
- Vacuuming and washing floors.
- Keeping shower room, all toilets, stocked and clean.
- Ensuring that cleaning supplies are used safely and effectively, reporting shortages or the need for additional supplies, to the admin team.
- Tidying up rooms/classrooms/communal areas.
- Emptying, cleaning and maintaining bins and disposing of waste.
- Undertaking basic record keeping as directed.
- There may be lone working involved.
Please note that duties will vary, and you will be expected to contribute to the overall aims of the school when required.
Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Ability to work well in a team and on own initiative
- Demonstrable attention to detail and pride in work
- Ability to recognise the need for confidentiality
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to be flexible
- Understanding of principles of Health and Safety
- COSHH – safe use of chemicals
- Electrical safety
- First Aid Certificate – desirable but not essential
Requirements:
- Good level of fitness
- The role will require some manual handling tasks – lifting, carrying
- Ability to work with appropriate cleaning products
- Ability to safely use a range of cleaning equipment
- Understanding of health and safety legislation and/or have a willingness to learn
- Ongoing training will be provided to support this role
- Due to the location of the school, candidates must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle.
