What skills and experience we're looking for
The Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic School Librarian & Literacy Specialist to join our team. This unique role combines the responsibilities of a school librarian with additional duties as a literacy specialist which includes developing strategies to raise the profile of reading across the school and foster a love of reading with our students. You will play a central role in managing the library as a welcoming and resource-rich environment, while also supporting targeted students through small group literacy intervention sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school library, ensuring it remains a
well-organised, vibrant, and accessible resource for all students.
- Develop and manage a diverse and engaging collection of books and resources that promote a love of reading and support the curriculum.
- Facilitate library sessions and reading programmes including Accelerated Reader, that inspire students to read widely and deepen their appreciation for literature.
- Provide small group literacy intervention for targeted students, using effective, research-based strategies to boost reading and comprehension skills.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate literacy into the wider curriculum and support classroom initiatives to raise reading and literacy standards.
- Organise reading events and literacy initiatives, such as book clubs, author visits, and reading challenges, to create a thriving reading culture within the school.
- Monitor and assess student progress in literacy, providing feedback to both students and staff to support individual growth with Accelerated Reader.
- Maintain the library’s digital systems, including cataloguing and online resources, to ensure ease of access and efficiency.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience as a librarian or in a similar role within an educational setting.
- Demonstrated passion for promoting literacy and encouraging reading for pleasure among young people.
- Strong understanding of literacy development and experience delivering targeted literacy interventions or support.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff to enhance literacy across the curriculum.
- A commitment to upholding the school’s Christian ethos and values.
- Hold Chartered Librarian status.
