School Librarian job summary

St Michael's Catholic Academy is looking to appoint a Librarian for 37 hours per week. As a School Librarian, you will be at the heart of the school’s learning environment, fostering a culture of reading, research, and digital literacy. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about empowering students to become independent learners, critical thinkers, and enthusiastic readers.

You will manage and develop the school library as a vibrant, inclusive, and resource-rich space that supports the academic and personal growth of students across all year groups. Your responsibilities will include curating a diverse and engaging collection, supporting curriculum delivery through research guidance, and promoting reading for pleasure through creative initiatives and events.

In collaboration with teaching staff, you will help integrate information literacy and digital research skills into the wider curriculum, ensuring students are equipped to navigate and evaluate information in an increasingly digital world. You’ll also play a key role in supporting students with their independent study and project-based learning.

This is a dynamic and rewarding position that combines educational support, resource management, and student engagement—all within a welcoming and intellectually stimulating environment.

We can offer:

  • Generous 27 days annual leave entitlement, rising to 32 days after 5 years service
  • The opportunity to be part of a dynamic and successful team
  • Access to Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Networking opportunities.
  • Flexible working patterns
