We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and committed School Librarian to join a team of dedicated and hardworking staff in a happy, friendly and supportive school.

The key focus for the successful candidate will be the continuous improvement in the management and operation of the school library, the delivery of a high standard of service to all school customers on a day to day basis and a significant contribution to improvements in literacy across the school and the fostering of good lifelong reading habits amongst our students.

The Wilnecote School is in the enviable position of managing a dual use library for both school and community use. The school retains sole use of the library for agreed hours during the week and it is then open to the public outside of that time and staffed by volunteers. We now require a Librarian to manage and run the school library during the time the library is open to the school but also act as a liaison with the Tamworth Library Service outside of that time to ensure excellent communication and team-working. Our library is located on the school site in Wilnecote to the south east of Tamworth town center. The center provides a library service to the students and staff of the school as well as the communities of Wilnecote, Tamworth and surrounding areas.

Job Purpose:

Promoting and developing the school library in order to provide an efficient service to pupils and staff.

Main Functions:

  • The organisation and management of the library including but not limited to generating records of overdue books:
  • Recording journals; producing notices. The School uses the SIRSI (symphony) programme.
  • The selection, acquisition, organisation, promotion and maintenance of book and non-book resources to cover the full age and ability range of the school and local community, and to ensure an equality of opportunity for all pupils and staff.
  • Taking responsibility for and managing the Library budget
  • Supervise the library before school, during lunch breaks and during after school club.
  • Undertake library displays.
  • Assist with the promotional activities for the library.
  • Collect data with regard to the library use, number of books borrowed and the use of the library during lessons.
