Your Role in Building Brighter Futures
As a School Meals Supervisory Assistant (SMSA) at Two Rivers CofE Academy, you will play a key role in contributing to the delivery of Futura’s mission statement of “Building the brightest future for all, enabling every individual to flourish”. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about living our values and making a positive impact on all the young people in our Trust.
The SMSA will play an essential role in ensuring the safety, welfare, and behaviour of our pupils during the midday break. This position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on children's lunchtime experience while supporting the smooth running of the school environment.
As SMSA you will be responsible providing:
Support for Pupils:
- Supervise pupils in designated areas of the school (including playgrounds and other offsite spaces) before, during, and after the midday break.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of pupils, enforcing school policies and procedures to promote good behaviour.
- Manage conflict and incidents, encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
- Supervise pupils’ movement to and from dining areas, ensuring hygiene practices such as handwashing are followed.
- Provide first aid and respond to sickness or accidents, seeking further assistance when necessary.
Support for School:
- Contribute to the promotion of the school’s healthy eating policy.
- Report any incidents or behavioural issues to the school leadership team at the end of the lunch period.
- Assist with basic cleaning and general duties in the dining area, including clearing and resetting tables.
- Help set up and remove furniture or play equipment as needed around the school.
General Responsibilities:
- Embody the values of Respect, Opportunity, Collaboration, and Aspiration.
- Undertake training as required to effectively carry out duties.
- Promote the welfare of children and young people and report any safeguarding concerns.
- Ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to, including compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act.
- Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be required for this role.
What You’ll Bring to FuturaWe are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic School Meals Supervisory Assistant (SMSA) with:
Essential:
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills
- Experience working collaboratively in a team
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Approachable, empathetic, and positive attitude
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
- Physical resilience to perform tasks such as bending, lifting, and clearing
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions when supervising outside
Desirable:
- Experience supervising pupils in a school environment
- Familiarity with Health and Safety policies
- Basic First Aid qualification or knowledge
- Understanding of pupils’ welfare and social needs during midday breaks
