The Whitehaven Academy is part of Cumbria Education Trust. CET is a growing multi-academy trust based in Cumbria; and is committed to creating outstanding, innovative and inspiring learning environments for our schools and their communities. The successful candidate will be joining CET at an exciting time, as we continue to build on our successes and move forward on our journey to establish ourselves as one of the highest performing MATs in the North of England.

This is an excellent opportunity to join The Whitehaven Academy at a pivotal time for its future. There has been significant financial investment to redevelop the school which moved into its state-of-the-art new building in 2022 and new sports facilities added in 2023. The school continues to expand, and we were again oversubscribed for Year 7 admissions in September 2024 and 2025.

In partnership with England Rugby and The Whitehaven Academy, the successful candidate will be working across a network of secondary schools, primary schools and linked clubs to lead rugby development in West Cumbria area. The position will require you to:-

  • coordinate and facilitate activity such as school playing opportunities and teacher training
  • build systems to grow the game
  • forge sustainable links to local clubs
  • deliver inclusive and developmental rugby activity
  • maximise participation, especially with underrepresented groups
  • develop staff and young leaders
  • provide links for students and schools to local community clubs

If you have the qualities required, along with the passion and aspirations to contribute to the success of the Academy and the MAT, then we would welcome an application from you.

We will be operating a rolling recruitment process, which means we will accept applications until the position is filled. Therefore, we would encourage submission of early application forms as we reserve the right to close the application process at any point.
