School Site Manager job summary

This role is more than just maintenance. It’s about creating an environment where students and staff can thrive. From overseeing day-to-day operations to ensuring the highest standards of Health & Safety compliance, you’ll be at the heart of everything that keeps our site functioning at its best.

If you enjoy variety, take pride in high standards, and love leading a team while solving problems, this could be the perfect role for you.

What you’ll be doing:

As Site Manager, you will take ownership of the school’s estate, balancing leadership, organisation, and practical know-how:

  • Lead and support the site team to deliver outstanding standards across the entire site
  • Take full responsibility for Health & Safety compliance, including statutory checks, COSHH and ensuring a safe environment for all
  • Oversee both planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and effectively
  • Manage external contractors, building strong relationships and ensuring work meets required standards
  • Keep essential systems (heating, lighting, alarms, emergency systems) running reliably through regular inspections
  • Play a key role in site security, including participating in an out-of-hours emergency rota
  • Oversee cleaning services, carrying out audits and maintaining excellent standards across the site
  • Support school life by helping facilitate events, lettings, and community use of the facilities
  • Drive cost-effective solutions and contribute to continuous improvement across operations
  • Champion sustainability and environmentally responsible practices across the school

What we are looking for:

We are after someone who is practical, proactive, and confident leading from the front:

  • Proven experience in site or facilities management across multiple buildings (education sector experience is a plus)
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team and work independently when needed
  • Excellent working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (IOSH qualified or willing to train)
  • A hands-on approach with solid DIY and maintenance skills
  • Good organisational and communication skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable using IT systems for reporting and compliance record-keeping
  • Experience with grounds maintenance and sports pitch upkeep is desirable
  • Physically capable of regular manual tasks such as moving equipment and setting up staging for events
  • Flexible, adaptable, and ready to respond to the changing needs of a busy school environment

What makes this role special:

  • No two days are the same. You will be solving problems, leading a team, and making a real impact
  • You will play a key role in creating a safe and inspiring environment for young people
  • A great opportunity to bring your ideas, improve processes, and take pride in visible results

Please read the Cultural Fit document attached before making your application.
