The SSI is a key CCF staff member whose principal role is to organise and deliver military and adventure training to the CCF. The SSI role is central to the smooth and efficient running of the Contingent and the development of the leadership potential of Cadets. There is an expectation that the SSI will take a lead role in the future direction of the CCF.

Role & Responsibility:

Plan and deliver instruction and training to CCF staff and cadets.

Assist with both Military and adventurous training camps, and competitions.

Assist in the management of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for the CCF and for the learners outside the CCF.

Responsibility for issue, care and maintenance and accountability of all MOD and CCF equipment.

You may be at times required to work Saturday and Sundays depending on CCF weekend activities, and some overnight work is required to support camps and courses.

General Combined Cadet Force Information

The Scarborough UTC Combined Cadet Force will form an integral part of the extra-curricular life of the College. It is envisaged that the School Staff Instructor will play a formative role in establishing the CCF as a major part of the learning and leadership development opportunities offered to the learners of the College.

Learners will volunteer for the CCF, and the SSI will have a marketing role to maintain and grow the contingent, currently there are approximately 50 cadets. The CCF is Royal Navy and there is an aspiration to grow to include other sections.

The SSI is responsible to the Contingent Commander for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children and young people for whom they are responsible, or with whom they come into contact. They will adhere to and always ensure compliance with the Trusts Child Protection Policy.

The appointment of the SSI is subject to approval and security clearance by the MoD and to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. The SSI is subject to the CCF regulations, and their attention should be drawn to Joint Service Publication 313.
