Science Teacher (Maternity Cover) - SEMH SchoolWe are seeking a dedicated and resilient Science Teacher to join our team on a maternity cover basis within a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) setting.
This role involves planning and delivering the science curriculum. The teacher will create a supportive, structured, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes positive behaviour, builds student confidence, and fosters a love of learning. The successful candidate will be expected to teach all three sciences at KS3 and KS4, and will be well organised, resourceful, adaptable, flexible and innovative.
Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, the Science Teacher will contribute to individual education plans, support students’ personal development, and implement strategies to manage challenging behaviours effectively. A strong emphasis is placed on relationship-building, consistency, and trauma-informed practice.
The ideal candidate will be adaptable, patient, and committed to making a meaningful impact on the lives of young people, helping them to re-engage with education and achieve their potential.
Batchwood is a mixed secondary SEMH day school for pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The current pupil roll is 110 students, organised into 11 classes of approximately 7 pupils supported by a teaching assistant when available. We are a ‘listening’ school and place emphasis upon thinking and talking through problems, finding solutions and being part of a whole community.
