Science Teacher job summary

Curriculum, staffing and resources

The Science Department consists of 15 teachers and 5 technicians in 10 well equipped laboratories. Our department vision is for our young people to think and behave like scientists, and we foster these traits through a well-planned curriculum based on the Activate course (OUP) at KS3 and AQA Combined Science (Trilogy)/Separate Sciences Course (OUP) at KS4, both of which follow the National Curriculum. We have a good uptake in A-level in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in KS5 and the plan to start delivering one of the new level 3 alternative Academic Qualifications (AAQ) from September 2025.

Our friendly department prioritises CPD for all our staff which includes the mentoring of student teachers and ECTs each year. Staff with more experience regularly progress to take on leadership responsibilities within the department or in pastoral roles across the school.

Tutor role

We are committed to the delivery of Personal Social Health Citizenship & Economic education (PSHCEe) which all teachers as tutors are expected to teach. As part of a whole-school approach, PSHCEe develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive both as individuals and members of society. We have a high-quality provision of PSHCEe at Park which has been recognised nationally.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and the successful applicant must provide satisfactory references and will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
