What the school offers its staff

The Academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which affords opportunities for staff to work and progress across several schools. There are also significant opportunities for your development through the Outwood Institute of Education.
The science department at OAP is one of the highest performing schools in the trust for Science. At KS3 we have a curriculum that is sequenced in order to build on substantive knowledge, whilst developing disciplinary knowledge through the use of models, hooks and application in practical based science. At KS4 we ensure students build on their ability to retrieve knowledge, which we then build on with a lot of application based work. There are also opportunities to teach at the Post-16 centre to deliver A-levels in the sciences if you so wish.
We pride ourselves on our supportive nature. We are a team full of passionate individuals with a love for science and learning. Practical science is at the heart of what we do. We believe that through outstanding teaching, students will leave with a better understanding of the world around them and therefore be able to make informed decisions about their life.
We are a young team that work together collaboratively, from teaching staff and support staff, we ensure that students are always put first. We have 10 laboratories, soon to be 12, which are well equipped, ensuring that all practical teaching activities are covered.
