Science Teacher with TLR job summary

About Us
Willow Park is a supportive and dynamic SEMH school dedicated to providing high-quality education for students who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Our learners are at varying stages of academic ability, and we pride ourselves on delivering a personalised curriculum that enables them to achieve their full potential.

The Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate SEMH Teacher with expertise in SEMH education to join our dedicated team. You will deliver the science curriculum to KS3 and KS4 students, ensuring lessons are accessible, engaging, and tailored to individual needs. Most pupils currently access Entry Level Science, with GCSE Biology available for those showing exceptional engagement and ability.

As part of this role, you will also lead on curriculum development, supporting colleagues in planning and delivering high-quality science teaching that inspires and motivates students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Leadership: Design, develop, and enhance the science curriculum across KS3 and KS4 to suit the needs of SEMH pupils.

  • Teaching & Learning: Deliver creative, differentiated lessons that support a wide range of abilities—from significantly below age-related expectations to low-level GCSE.

  • Student Engagement: Bring innovative ideas to make science exciting, accessible, and meaningful for secondary-age students.

  • Behaviour Management: Create a positive, inclusive learning environment using restorative and proactive approaches.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues to support individual learning plans and share best practices in SEMH teaching.

  • Mentoring: Support staff with strategies for adapting science teaching to SEMH learners.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in working in an SEMH environment.

  • Teaching experience.

  • Strong knowledge of the science curriculum, including the ability to teach to low level GCSE.

  • A creative and innovative approach to lesson planning and curriculum delivery.

  • Excellent behaviour management skills with a restorative, student-centred approach.

  • A passion for working with SEMH pupils and making a meaningful impact in their lives.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to engage pupils and spark curiosity.

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential; additional SEMH-related training is desirable.

Why Join Us?

  • Supportive, collaborative team environment

  • Ongoing professional development opportunities

  • The chance to make a real difference in the lives of students facing SEMH challenges
