Hours: 25 hours per week and 39 weeks per year. ( 38 weeks Term Time plus one week including INSET days)

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Science Technician to join our friendly and forward-thinking team, to provide support to schools and students across the trust.

To provide Laboratory and General Assistance to the Science Faculty as part of the team of Technicians. The nature of the work requires an adequate technical knowledge and the utmost care to ensure a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Repair, construction and testing of equipment.
  • Preparation of reagents and solutions including concentrated acids and volumetric solutions.
  • Maintenance of microbiological cultures including aseptic work and the disposal of contaminated materials.
  • Periodic stock checking and replacement as required organisation of storage.
  • Preparation of equipment and materials for science practical's, projects and assessments.
  • Care of plants and livestock within the faculty.
  • Maintenance of petty cash accounts and the purchase of perishable materials.
  • Preparation of specialist equipment for Field Studies.
  • Support for students carrying out projects including those from other departments (eg Food, Drama, Design and Technology).
  • Advising and demonstrating of equipment to staff.
  • To carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT). Training can be provided.
  • To support Monitoring/IT within the Faculty.
  • To carry out other duties which may be decided from time to time within the grading of the post.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications:

  • NVQ 2 or equivalent and/or relevant other qualifications.
  • Good academic standard of Numeracy/literacy and IT skills or experience of working in a similar role, to carry out the duties of the post.

Experience:

  • A good understanding of technical procedures related to the job and how they fit into the function of the section/work area.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Organises and prioritises work on at least a weekly basis, requires minimal supervision to complete tasks within set procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Detailed understanding of the Microsoft Systems and associated hardware
