Science Technician job summary

Science Technician

We seek to appoint an enthusiastic, diligent and dedicated Science Technician. The ideal candidate for this vacancy will be highly motivated and committed to supporting the Teachers of Science in delivering engaging and inspiring Science lessons. If you feel that you have these attributes and skills, and are suitably qualified, then we would like to hear from you.

In October, Ofsted commended the Academy: "The school aspires to offer a transformative experience for its pupils, and for many, it achieves this goal. Pupils feel genuinely cared for in this friendly, inclusive school. They know that trusted adults keep them safe and will act swiftly to help them if they have any worries. Pupils are encouraged to take full advantage of the distinctive opportunities available to nurture their talents and expand their horizons. As one pupil explained, 'There is something for everyone here.'"

We continue, with renewed vigour, to pursue our mission to establish ourselves as a truly great school at the heart of the community we serve.

The Academy is a diverse, inclusive school for girls and boys from Year 7 to Sixth Form, where high expectations are set for everyone in our community. Our TUDOR values—Tolerance, Unity, Democracy, Opportunity, and Respect—are the golden strands that run through every aspect of our school.

Department information

The science curriculum offered at Tudor Grange Academy Worcester is inspiring, challenging and fully inclusive; we are supportive, proactive and dedicated to ensuring that every child fulfils their potential. The curriculum is a vertically integrated, 5 year continuous one, where knowledge and skills are revisited throughout the years at greater breadth and depth.

Each student is taught the sciences as separate subjects. Our mastery ethos with regards to our content delivery and sequencing of curriculum have all been praised for being forward thinking and considerate of staff workload and well-being.

We work collaboratively with the five other secondary schools within the Tudor Grange Trust to share expertise, resources and opportunities.

Science is a popular choice with students, and over 40% of the year 12 cohort have chosen to study one or more of the disciplines at A Level. Student voice is always positive of the experience within the department.

We offer STEM and astrology as extracurricular activities and are always looking for ways that this can be developed to be as inclusive for as many of our students as possible. We host sixth form students in the prep room to add to their enrichment programme, and to deepen their skills to ensure that they can be successful during their A Level studies.

Within our new-build school the Science department has recently been extended. We have 7 fully functioning laboratory teaching spaces, 3 classrooms, a small break out space and a large lead lesson space, overlooking the school playing fields. We have two prep rooms, a primary Biology and Chemistry space and a second, purpose built, Physics prep room. Within each prep room are desktops for teacher use, although most staff have classroom bases.

Science is the largest department in the school, with 13 members of teaching staff and a Curriculum Leader overseeing all aspects of department life. We have a fully staffed technician team, with 2 full time technicians.
