The music department at STAC is a vibrant and bustling hub within the school. Recipients of a Restore the Music grant, the department enjoys a dedicated suite of well-equipped classrooms and rehearsal spaces. Curriculum lessons are taught in smaller than average group sizes, allowing teaching to be truly engaging and exciting across the age and ability range. Students in Key Stage 3 study a broad yet rigorous programme of study, ranging from the study of Beethoven to Fela Kuti, with Bob Marley in between. The department currently offers Edexcel GCSE, Eduqas Performing Arts (Music Tech) and Eduqas A level. There is a large team of dedicated peripatetic staff who support the department by delivering instrumental and vocal lessons to STAC Music Scholars – around 10% of the school’s pupils - who receive heavily subsidised weekly lessons.
There are many clubs and extra-curricular activities in the music department, including ensembles for all instruments, a Gospel Choir, Band Club and more. Students have recently taken part in concerts and performances, including a Battle of the Bands, annual school productions and a tour to Belgium. It is expected that the successful candidate will take full part in the extra-curricular provision of the department.
