SEMH Specialist Teacher job summary

What is the job role?
We are looking for a SEMH teacher to play a vital role in helping our pupils who experience barriers to learning due to emotional or behavioural difficulties. You will work closely with class teachers, support staff, and families to identify individual needs and put in place tailored strategies, interventions, and support plans. This may include developing emotional literacy, teaching coping and self-regulation skills, and providing small group or one-to-one sessions to build confidence and resilience. You will will also contribute to whole-school approaches that promote wellbeing and positive behaviour, ensuring all pupils feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
Who are we looking for?The successful candidate will:
- Have experience of working with pupils with SEMH or additional needs in a mainstream or specialist setting.
- Be a skilled classroom practitioner who can adapt teaching to meet diverse needs.
- Use positive behaviour support and restorative approaches to promote engagement and emotional wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and outside agencies to provide consistent support.
- Demonstrate patience, empathy, and resilience.
