A new opportunity has arisen, for a SEN Learning Support Assistant to join our successful team supporting students in the classroom environment, to assist student learning and improve educational outcomes.

We are seeking to appoint a SEN Learning Support Assistant who has experience, or an interest, in supporting children with special educational needs, such as autism. You will have a passion for working with pupils and assisting them on their journey. You will need to have an understanding of the subjects that you support the children in, be able to demonstrate a fair attitude and apply rules consistently. You will be resilient and have excellent de-escalation skills. The ideal candidate will be able to nurture supportive relationships and be able to demonstrate a practical, hands-on approach to supporting teaching. In addition to this, you will be required to assist the children during lunchtime.

Thameside Primary School are looking for an Inspiring and enthusiastic SEN Learning Support Assistant who is highly motivated, creative, fun and keen to progress their career. Thameside Primary School can support people with a degree to become a teacher.

The candidates will preferably have relevant NVQ qualifications or equivalent. They must have a good standard of English and Mathematics and basic computer skills. Previous experience is desirable.

  • Experience or interest in supporting pupils with a range of needs e.g. Asperger’s, Autism,
  • ADHD, speech and / or language difficulties, cerebral palsy

This position will involve:

  • Supporting pupils, to ensure they are engaged in learning activities
  • Promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all students within the classroom
  • Acting as a role model, setting high expectations of conduct and promoting positive pupil behaviour, to create a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Providing feedback to the classroom teacher on the pupil’s progress against lesson plans, the conduct of the lesson and keeping pupil-related records
  • Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school’s policies and procedures about health & safety, welfare and wellbeing and safeguarding
  • Providing additional support to the teachers in the classrooms
  • Establishing positive relationships with the pupils in lessons being covered
