Hours: 32.5 hours per week (8:30 am - 3:30 pm with a half-hour lunch), Term Time Only

Southroyd Primary School is a welcoming and inclusive school seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with Special Educational Needs (SEN). We are looking for someone who is committed to our co-operative values and wants to become involved in the wider life of our school community.

About the Role

Working under the direct instruction of our teaching staff, you will be a vital part of our team, supporting a pupil's access to learning. The role involves working 1:1 with a child who requires support, including for high-tariff behaviour. You will play a key role in ensuring the pupil feels safe, included, and able to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 support to a pupil to ensure access to learning

  • Establishing a good relationship with the pupil, acting as a positive role model and responding appropriately to their individual needs.

  • Supporting the teacher in managing pupil behaviour.

  • Preparing the classroom for lessons, creating displays of pupils' work, and maintaining equipment and resources.

  • Assisting with pupil record-keeping and reporting on progress to the teacher.

  • Supervising pupils during out-of-lesson times and accompanying them on school trips and visits as required.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who has:

Essential:

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, with the confidence to work with children from Early Years to Year 6.

  • The ability to relate well to both children and adults.

  • Experience working with or caring for primary-aged children.

  • The ability to work constructively as part of a team.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • A flexible, resilient, and enthusiastic approach to work.

Desirable:

  • A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or a willingness to work towards this).

  • GCSE Maths & English at Grade C or above.

  • Experience supporting children with SEN.

  • Experience working in a school environment.
