What skills and experience we're looking for
UTC Oxfordshire is seeking an experienced and passionate Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to join our dedicated team. This is a key role within the UTC responsible for ensuring that all students with additional needs receive the support they need to thrive academically and personally.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead and manage the provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.
- Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to create inclusive learning environments.
- Teach up to 10 hours per week in your specialist subject area.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the identification, assessment, and support of students with SEND.
- Coordinate and monitor Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Provide training and guidance to staff on inclusive teaching strategies.
- Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure effective communication and support.
- Contribute to whole-school improvement and safeguarding practices.
Person Specification
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience in teaching.
- National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete).
- Strong understanding of SEND legislation and best practice.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
