Are you an aspiring senior leader or a teacher looking for continued development?

With our ‘Learn and Care’ ethos, a community that supports us and helps us keep going no matter what - coupled with high expectations, we believe we have something really special – all we need is you.
Here at Wheatcroft Community Primary we share a special and unique learning community with friendly and welcoming children, staff and governors, and we are proud to serve the town of Scarborough.

Our learning environment, with spacious accommodation, enables us to offer a tailored curriculum to our children, is second to none and we are excited to share and further develop our excellent provision for our staff and children.
We know the CPD we offer develops our teachers as professionals – with many going onto promotion as leaders across the coast.

Our opportunity

Following the external promotion to Deputy Headteacher we are looking to appoint a teaching colleague to become our new SENCo and DSL. The role will also include attendance management. This is a non-teaching post, although occasionally some class cover may be required.

Wheatcroft has a deserved reputation locally for the support we provide to our children, who either have an EHCP or who require access to our inclusive ethos.

You will already be an excellent classroom practitioner within your phase and ideally have experience within SEN and inclusion within your current role and phases. With tailored support from our Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher we will further develop you and give you the skills, encouragement and experience within the profession to continue to learn and care.
Our SEN provision is one of the strengths of our school and all the tools and support is in place for you to continue to develop our provision.
We actively welcome interest from colleagues who already hold the National SENCO Award as well as from teachers (from any specialism) who have a keen interest in developing their career in SEN and inclusion.

Our ideal candidate will:

• Be fully committed to our school and our ethos
• Have an excellent understanding of SEN Code of Practice and procedures
• Be a skilled and experienced teacher with exemplary classroom practice, and the skills to be able to coach and develop this within others
• Have a strong track record in making an impact on pupils’ progress
• Have excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
• Be able to lead, motivate and inspire others to achieve excellence
• Be able to strategically lead and develop SEN across the school
• Be innovative and have a passion for high quality education for all

We can offer you:
• A warm, happy school where we value our Community ethos and have a philosophy of treating each other with kindness and respect
• Happy, enthusiastic and well behaved children
• A school with unique and inspiring learning environments
• An opportunity to work with an experienced and committed team and take a leading role in a school determined to reach the highest standards

We are proud to work alongside our fellow primary and secondary communities and we believe we have a unique opportunity for colleagues to grow, develop and thrive in their career as part of our coastal community. Wheatcroft Community Primary School was opened in 1968.

There are seven classes in total including four Key Stage 2 (Junior) classes, two Key Stage 1 (Infant) classes and a Foundation class. Class organisation is one class per year group eg Class 1 is Year 1, Class 2 is Year 2 etc. The main school building has six classrooms, a school library, offices, an IT suite and a large hall which is used for PE, Music, School Assemblies and lunch. One classroom is in one of our two mobile units next to the main building. The other mobile unit is used by staff to run intervention programmes with small groups of children during the day. The Bungalow adjacent to school is used for our before and after school club Wheaties as well as having a dedicated Speech and Language room and Special Needs office. An extension was built to enable us to open a brand new school library in December 2019 which is also open to families after school.

The school grounds are extensive and comprise a Key Stage 1 playground, a Key Stage 2 playground and two large playing fields at the back of the school. The Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 adventure trails were installed in April 2014. New outdoor gym equipment was installed in 2018 thanks to Tesco contributing £2000 towards costs. We also have the Jubilee Garden which was renovated for the school's Golden Jubilee in 2018 and is a peaceful area for pupils to sit and relax.

We run lots of extra curricular activities before and after school including different sports and music clubs. See our School Clubs page for what's on offer!

In addition, we run a very successful before and after school club called Wheaties run by Wheatcroft staff from 8am -8.45am every morning and from 3.10pm-5.30pm every night in school.
