SENCO job summary

Following the retirement of our long-standing Inclusion Development Leader and departure of our SENCO, Waterton Academy Trust is looking to appoint an inspirational and ambitious SENCO to join our team at Churchfield Primary School.

A vacancy at Churchfield is rare, so this is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has a passion for supporting children and staff, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Waterton team! This vacancy is full-time, and will be split with 4 days non-class based SENCO time (Tues – Fri), and 1 day teaching time (Mon).

This role will have a clear progression route to the ‘trust SENCO’ role after one year, when combined with outstanding performance.

Churchfield is renowned for SEND Provision, with a reputation in and beyond Barnsley for being a leading school for SEND pupils. The new SENCO will continue to grow this reputation, whilst also bringing fresh, new ideas. The SENCO role will also include oversight and manage of school’s internal specialist-level provisions: TEACCH, SALT & Nurture, as well as overseeing and line managing support staff and their deployment.

The role of SENCO at Churchfield is a coveted role within Barnsley and beyond, and we are looking for the right person to continue all the great work that happens in school, whilst still looking to improve our offer event further.

This successful candidate will also join our Senior Leadership Team, and play a pivotal role in developing whole-school improvement with a focus on SEND, as well as being part of a SENCO network within the trust and working with our Head of SEND, Laura Thresh.

The successful candidate will:

Be an excellent teacher who can inspire and motivate children to achieve their full potential

Have a sound knowledge of the SEN code of practice

Drive a fully inclusive ethos across the whole school, ensuring that staff develop a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum to help children succeed

Have high expectations of pupils as well as themselves

Is able to contribute fully to school life and has a drive and determination to contribute to whole school developments

Be committed to on-going professional development

Have great interpersonal skills and is able to work well as part of a team

In return we can offer:

A friendly, welcoming school

A clear and defined pathway for development & promotion to a trust SENCO role
