What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Have a proven track record of excellence in the role of SENCO and improving learning and progress for all children
  • In liaison with the Head Teacher, determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school
  • Have excellent knowledge of the curriculum and SEND Code of Practice
  • Have successfully completed the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination
  • Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN
  • Line manage the Assistant SENCO
  • Under the guidance of the Lead DSL, ensure that all safeguarding and child protection (including online safety) matters arising at the School are adealt with effectively
  • Lead the work of the school Learning Mentors
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Nurture and mental health and wellbeing provision
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies
