SENCO job summary
You will be passionate about ensuring equality of opportunity for any child with SEND, removing any barriers to progress and wellbeing and ensuring that all students have the support to achieve their dreams.
Our current SENCo has driven up the standards in SEN since our Ofsted report in February 2023. SEN is a place of support, calmness, understanding and highly skilled Teaching assistants. Within the department are ELSA, MELSA, HLTA and social skills specialists. Our skilled staff deliver interventions from handwriting to precision teaching.
Our SEN provision supports students with anxiety to hearing impairment, from ADHD to school refusal. Approximately 23% of the Walderslade students access a form of SEN support. 8.9% of the students in the Walderslade provision are officially on the SEN register, however a far larger representation of students have diagnosed or undiagnosed needs.
SENCO is a key position and involves working closely with students and their families, supporting students in school and working with external agencies.
The successful candidate will be
- Passionate about improving the outcomes for children
- Have a strong understanding of secondary special educational needs and the issues which affect out students' wellbeing
- Knowledge and understanding of the barriers faced by SEND students
