SENCO job summary
This is a key leadership role within the school, responsible for ensuring that all pupils with SEND receive high-quality support and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with staff, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement inclusive practices across the school.
SENCOs play a vital role in shaping SEND strategy and improving outcomes for pupils, often working as part of the senior leadership team
This position is available on either a full-time or part-time basis. The full-time role encompasses both SENCO responsibilities and PPA cover across the school. However, for the ideal candidate, a part-time contract focusing exclusively on the SENCO role will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision and policy
Coordinate the identification, assessment, and support of pupils with SEND
Monitor and evaluate pupil progress and impact of interventions
Work collaboratively with teachers to ensure inclusive classroom practice
Provide guidance, training, and support to staff on SEND strategies
Liaise with parents/carers to support pupil development
Work with external agencies (e.g. educational psychologists, therapists)
Oversee EHCP processes, reviews, and documentation
Manage SEND resources and deployment of support staff
Ensure compliance with SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements
We are looking for someone who:
Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Has significant experience working with pupils with SEND
Holds or is willing to work towards the NPQ for SENCO (mandatory qualification)
Has strong knowledge of SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice
Demonstrates strong leadership and organisational skills
Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Is committed to inclusive education and raising achievement for all pupils
Can work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies
