Abbey View Primary Academy is a new, state of the art academy in the heart of the Pine Trees Development in High Wycombe. Abbey View opened in September 2019 and was built to serve the nursery and primary education needs of the new development. In September 2022, we opened our Year 6 class in September 2023 and will continue to grow year-on-year, to a two-form entry primary academy, offering places from Nursery to Year 6 and wraparound care provision.

About the role:

As a SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will be expected to provide one-to-one support to an individual pupil with an Educational Healthcare Plan (EHC) whom has specific needs. The post-holder will be fully informed about the needs they are supporting and what the targets set by external professionals are, and how to effectively support these needs. You will work under the direction of class teacher and the Head of Academy to support and deliver planned learning interventions.

Job Description: SEND 1:1 Teaching Assistant role will include:

Main responsibilities:

  • Supporting an individual pupil with an EHC Plan
  • Using positive communication to ensure firm, consistent boundaries are set
  • Ensuring the pupils’ understanding of instructions and how to succeed in the task
  • Redirecting the pupils back to the task when their attention wanders
  • Giving praise for perseverance
  • Acknowledging every aspect of good behaviour

In addition, you will also be:

  • Supporting pupils in class
  • Supporting small groups or individuals out of class
  • The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills
