SEND Learning Support Assistant job summary

We are looking for a SEND LSA to support some children with Individual Needs and when required, to assist with classroom cover in the absence of a teacher (approximately 5-10 hours per week). The children all work as part of the grammar class but benefit from statutory support in the classroom. The role is 36 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (Term time plus 1 week). You will be working 08:30-16:30, Monday to Friday with a 48-minute unpaid break.

The school have recently achieved the SEND Inclusive Award (SENDIA) at their first attempt, showing our commitment and dedication in ensuring that our curriculum and provision are inclusive for all students and more particularly those with SEND.

This is a brief extract from the SENDIA assessor’s report:

Inclusion is at the heart of decision-making. The school’s ethos promotes acceptance, support and belonging for every student. Senior leaders prioritise the needs of pupils with SEND, underpinned by a clear strategy and whole-school approach to inclusive practice, ensuring that quality first teaching and adaptive methods are in place across the curriculum.

The school has a robust referral system, with a centralised spreadsheet tracking interventions. Staff receive CPD to identify emerging needs, and referrals trigger targeted support and external involvement if needed. Internal assessments, including access arrangements and dyslexia screenings, are managed in-house for a more personal and responsive approach. Pupils are engaged in planning their own provision. Individual SEND profiles are co-developed with students, including self-created ‘user guides’ and personalised transition support. SEND planning reflects student feedback and adapts over time, empowering learners to be involved in their own progress and support structures.

Parents are central to the SEND process and are consulted with, involved in meetings, and invited to share feedback on how best to support their child. Communication is open, especially for students with complex or emotional needs. ‘Team Around the Child’ meetings ensure external and home-school collaboration.

The main purpose of the role:

The purpose of the LSA is to support the children with their learning and general wellbeing and to ensure every child has the best opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and safe environment. Each approach will be tailored to the individual student.

We are committed to support all our staff with the training they need to be the best of the best in their role at Beths Grammar School.
