We have a vacancy for a SEND Pastoral Support Officer. This area of the College is high profile with an excellent record of success in the wider achievements of our students.

Reporting to our SENCO, we are seeking an enthusiastic SEND Pastoral Support Officer to work collaboratively with and in support of the SENCO, Deputy SENCO, Heads of Year and Senior Leaders. The Pastoral Support Officer will provide comprehensive care, support and guidance for students with Education Health Care Plan’s and SEN needs, in order to ensure they meet the school’s high expectations of attitudes to learning, behaviour and attainment.

You will already have experience and enjoy both the challenge and reward of working with children who have complex needs. You should be prepared to work with students across the age range, and students with significant complex SEND needs. You will be joining a highly performing team with a proven track record of delivering excellent results.

The person we are looking for should have:

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

Experience of working with young people with SEND

Experience of working in a school environment

Good numeracy, literacy and communication skills

Level 2 (GCSE) minimum qualification in English, Mathematics + 3 other qualifications at grade C or higher

Desirable:

Experience delivering literacy based interventions

Experience of delivering bespoke interventions

Familiarity with exam specifications

Good knowledge of ICT to support learning

Knowledge and understanding

Essential:

Understand the importance of safeguarding processes and KCSIE

Ability to understand and create reports for relevant stakeholders

Ability to communicate information clearly and coherently; ability to listen effectively

Overcome communication barriers with young people and adults

Ability to understand and support young people with complex SEND

Job description

Duties of role will include:

Supporting the SENCO/Deputy SENCO in taking responsibility for the pastoral welfare of students on the Code of Practice primarily across Key Stage 3

Managing and delivering personalised interventions throughout the school day

Building positive relationships with SEN students, their families and relevant agencies

Being available to counsel and support individuals and groups of students;

Acting as a link person between home and school;

Helping to organise and administer appropriate rewards and sanctions

Liaising and seeking involvement as appropriate from parents / carers, teachers, Student support Team and external agencies in relation to the welfare of individual students

Contributing as required to parents’ evenings, staff meetings, gatherings, celebration evenings and other activities as associated with particular SEN students

Guiding and supporting students to safely and successfully manage face to face and on line relationships with peers

Reviewing student behaviour by analysing and monitoring data

Being proactive in the implementation of the anti-bullying policy in conjunction with the Executive Team

Monitoring student attendance, punctuality, positive and negative behaviour in line with the school’s policies and ensure that appropriate action is taken when required.

Promoting the aims of the school and support the school ethos

Leading by example, setting high expectations for all

Creating a positive climate where students aspire to be the best that they can be and believe in themselves

Working alongside members of the leadership team and the Student Support Team to ensure the delivery and on-going development of the pastoral system.

Monitoring and supporting students on the school site during lunchtime.

Monitoring of students after school as required, supporting with catch ups and extracurricular activities.

Being familiar and complying with all relevant Health and Safety, Management of Risk, Operational, Personal, Data Protection and Financial Regulations policies and procedures.

Ensuing the duties and responsibilities are carried out in a safe manner and safe working practices are adopted, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974.

Understanding and complying with procedures for the emergency evacuation of the school.
