SEND Specialist Teacher job summary
Bournville School (part of Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust) is a mainstream, non-selective, comprehensive school for students aged 4 -16. Bournville School is built on traditional values. We have 700 students currently on roll of which 26% are on the SEND register. The school is on an exciting improvement journey, we are now looking for a SEND Teacher to join our team to oversee our newly developed Enhanced Learning Provision Lead.
This role will be to provide high-quality teaching that enables pupils to progress not just academically but also socially and emotionally. You must be creative and have high expectations.
The role will involve teaching and planning the Enhanced Learning Provision curriculum at KS3/KS4, which is delivered to students with additional learning needs. The ideal candidate will preferably have special school teaching experience delivering outstanding teaching and learning. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to become part of the middle leadership team in a vibrant and thriving school.
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing school policies and practices, including those related to safeguarding and equality of opportunity. Additionally, you will be expected to support the SENCo in developing the SEN department and providing CPD for teaching assistants.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- A thorough working knowledge of the curriculum and how to adapt it for pupils with SEND
- Experience working with young people with additional needs
- An understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures
- The ability to create and maintain strong, nurturing relationships with young people
- Experience managing a range of learning approaches, including for students with anxiety
- Knowledge of strategies and teaching methods to engage reluctant learners
- A flexible approach, high creativity, and the ability to adapt teaching to meet individual needs
