What skills and experience we're looking for
Job Overview
- Are you a highly skilled SEND teacher with experience of SEMH?
- Do you have a passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve exceptional outcomes that are right for them in a mainstream setting?
- Would you like to be part of a team to provide exceptional opportunities for students as part of our innovative and well-resourced internal alternative provision?
- Would you like to work in a school where “Leaders, including governors, value the work of staff and where new teachers speak highly of the support they are given”? (Ofsted, June 2023)
- Are you looking to work in a thriving and well-regarded school where staff well-being is central to all of our decision making?
If the answer to any of these questions is “yes” then we would like to hear from you.
Waingels, a popular 11-18 school where students achieved above national average in all measures and was identified as “continuing to be good” in a recent OFSTED inspection, is seeking to appoint aSEND Teacherto become an integral part of our highly skilled and dedicated team who lead on our own alternative provision for students whose needs mean they need support to access the curriculum.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher with experience of working with students with MLD and/or SEMH in either a special school setting or in a comprehensive school setting such as Waingels.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join our experienced SEND team delivering an alternative curriculum to improve the outcomes of SEND students. The appointed person will possess the skills and/or experience to work with students with learning and behavioural needs, teaching and tutoring small groups of students in key stages 3 and 4, and working with some on a one-to-one basis. Ideally, you will be able to teach a core subject up to key stage 4, but this does not have to be your main subject specialism. You may also help to deliver a range of other vocational provisions.
Our behaviour and inclusion support for pupils is very strong, but this initiative is part of our commitment to continually review and develop provision. The appointed person will be able to differentiate work according to each student’s individual needs and will be able to work under their own initiative. They will be responsible for the planning, delivery and monitoring of learning. The ability to deliver interventions or therapies is desirable, but not essential. This alternative provision will be based in a recently renovated building with significant outdoor space. The focus will be on individual and small groups of students (typically 6-8) and helping to eliminate barriers to achievement. Efficient and effective communication with parents/carers will be key.
What the school offers its staff

Working with us offers you the opportunity to:

- Be part of a forward thinking department with well-resourced schemes of work and where teachers are encouraged to be innovative and try out a range of teaching styles.
- Engage in excellent, personalised, professional development opportunities
- Join a school where early finishes for parent consultation evenings and free tea and coffee every day are just some of the ways we ensure staff well-being is central to our decision making
- Work in a school where the values of Respect, Kindness, Pride and Responsibility underpin all we do.
If you feel your values and ethos align with ours, this is an exciting opportunity for you to pursue and advance your career.
