SEND Teaching Assistant job summary

Plaistow Hill Primary and Nursery School has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, caring and innovative Teaching Assistant, to join the team and make a difference in children’s lives. The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will be enthusiastic, a good team player and committed to supporting the learning of pupils with SEND.

Work under the direction of the SENDCO to provide high quality, bespoke provision for pupils with SEND. Support the social and emotional needs of pupils alongside the learning needs. Promote inclusion across the school and work alongside staff to upskill and support inclusive practice in the classroom. Promoting and embedding the school’s ethos and values in everyday activities. Work may be conducted in the classroom, outside the classroom, outside or on occasion off site at other bespoke provision.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one support for children with a range of SEND and SEMH needs
  • Work collaboratively with the KS1 team and the SENDCo to adapt resources and deliver targeted interventions
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that support each child’s academic, social, and emotional development
  • Help create a classroom environment where every child feels valued, confident, and ready to learn
  • Promote independence, confidence, and a love of learning in every child you support
  • Contribute to assessments, reviews, and the implementation of EHCP targets.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children with SEND (in a school or similar setting)
  • Is patient, empathetic, and able to adapt to different needs and situations
  • Works well as part of a team and communicates clearly with staff, pupils, and families
  • Is passionate about inclusion and committed to helping every child reach their full potential

The working pattern is Monday - Friday 9am - 3pm with 1 hour lunch break.
