Holy Trinity is a 3-16 Catholic and Church of England through school, which opened in September 2012 in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art building. We have a 470-place primary phase and a 700-place secondary phase. Our 3-16 through-school model creates exciting opportunities to work collaboratively across phases, enhance progress over time and support a seamless transition between Key Stages.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and strategic SENDCo who can lead with clarity, ambition and impact. Our school has a higher-than-average proportion of pupils with SEND, and we are looking for someone who understands the complexity and opportunity this brings. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of improving outcomes for pupils with SEND, be able to evidence the impact of their work, and have the confidence to work strategically with staff, families and external partners. They will play a key role in shaping high-quality provision, ensuring that pupils’ needs are identified and met effectively, and that every child is supported to achieve their best. The successful candidate will have a secure understanding of the graduated approach and will be confident leading the assess, plan, do, review cycle across the school. They will oversee the coordination of Education, Health and Care plans, manage statutory processes with accuracy and within required timescales, and maintain the rigorous records and provision mapping that underpin high-quality SEND practice. The successful candidate will have a confident grasp of current SEND legislation and reform, and the ambition to ensure that Holy Trinity’s provision is not only compliant but exemplary in its quality and impact.

You must be passionate about teaching and learning, committed to securing equity of provision for all young people, and be an excellent communicator. We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who can model high-quality, inclusive teaching and support staff to develop their practice so that pupils with SEND thrive across the curriculum. You must have the determination to drive our school forward, raising standards and creating outstanding life chances for all pupils, particularly those with SEND. A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is essential, and the successful candidate will be expected to uphold and contribute to our robust safeguarding culture at all times.

You will need to think and plan strategically to ensure that SEND provision across Holy Trinity, from ages 3-16, is ambitious, coherent and high quality, while also managing the day-to-day operational aspects of the role effectively. You will lead and manage a skilled SEND team, including SEND administration support, three Assistant SENDCos, two HLTAs, an Intervention Teacher and six Teaching Assistants. Working closely with teaching staff across all phases, you will ensure high-quality provision is consistently in place, providing training, coaching and practical support where needed to strengthen inclusive classroom practice and improve outcomes for pupils with SEND. You will build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of external agencies, including educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and CAMHS, and will be confident working within Barnsley’s Local Offer to signpost and secure appropriate support for pupils and families. You will have the knowledge and confidence to lead SEND provision across both primary and secondary phases, understanding the distinct needs and transitions that a 3-16 model presents. Experience of supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs will be particularly valued, given the profile of our school community.
