What skills and experience we're looking for

Marden Bridge Middle School is seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher (SENDCo) to join our 5-person leadership team. This is a pivotal role for an ambitious and positive leader who is passionate about inclusive education and eager to make a tangible difference across the whole school community. We have a growing SEN cohort who perform well academically and within the school environment because of the high-quality, expert care they receive, which is strategically co-ordinated by the SENCO. The successful candidate will maintain and grow this role as society and the educational landscape for pupils with SEN changes.

The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEND provision while playing a strategic role in shaping whole-school improvement. Working closely with colleagues, families, and external professionals, the Assistant Headteacher/SENDCO will ensure that all pupils with SEND are supported to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. As a member of the Leadership Team, you will contribute strategically to whole-school leadership, teaching and learning, and staff development. Your expertise in working with pupils and devising appropriate, reasonable adjustments that you disseminate to staff will help pupils flourish in our school.

Applications are invited from experienced teachers with experience of SEND who:

  • Are excellent practitioners, with high expectations for all children, and who have an excellent understanding of a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

  • Value the positive impact that a nurturing environment can have and have an understanding of nurture principles.

  • Are skilled in supporting others in their professional development and understanding of SEND through classroom adaptations.

  • Are able to develop excellent, positive relationships with children, parents/carers, and other staff.

  • Understand the graduated approach.

  • Can work confidently with outside professionals to complement the offer of services for key pupils.

September 2027 will see the start of a new school rebuild as we move into a new state-of-the-art school building. This will include specific rooms for pupils with different, particular needs.

There will be approximately 5 teaching periods across the week of a 25-hour timetable. We can retain flexibility for candidates with subject specialism.

Ofsted July 2025 ;

“Marden Bridge is offering pupils an exceptional education.”

“Pupils with SEND have the support they need to achieve well.”

“The personal development programme is exemplary.”
