Location: Bream C of E Primary School in the first instance. This is an appointment to the Trust and you could be required to work in any school in the Trust

Severn Federation Academy Trust is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and compassionate Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co‑ordinator (SENDCO) to join our team from September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated practitioner who is passionate about securing the very best outcomes for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. In this pivotal role, you will help shape and lead high‑quality SEND provision across the school, ensuring every child is understood, supported and empowered to thrive.
About the Role
As SENDCo, you will work closely with the Headteacher, senior leaders, teachers, support staff, parents and external agencies to ensure that pupils with SEN or disabilities receive the tailored support they need. You will:
• Lead the strategic development of the school’s SEND policy and provision
• Oversee the day to day operation of SEND processes, including maintaining the SEND register and provision mapping
• Provide expert guidance to colleagues on high quality teaching and effective intervention strategies
• Work collaboratively with external professionals and act as a key point of contact for the local authority
• Monitor, evaluate and refine SEND provision using assessment data and evidence based practice
• Support pupils and families through identification, planning, review processes and transitions
• Play an active role within the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to whole school improvement and ensuring compliance with the Equality Act 2010
• Promote an inclusive ethos where every pupil is valued and supported to achieve their best
Safeguarding is central to this role. You will work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and remain alert to the additional vulnerabilities faced by pupils with SEND.
Person Specification
We are looking for a SENDCo who brings both expertise and a deep commitment to inclusive education.
Qualifications & Training
• Qualified Teacher Status and a degree
• NPQ for SENDCOs, or willingness to complete within 3 years
Experience
• Successful teaching experience
• Experience supporting pupils with a range of SEND
• Contribution to whole school development and self evaluation
• Experience delivering training or leading INSET
Skills & Knowledge
• Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice
• Ability to plan, implement and evaluate effective interventions
• Confident in analysing data to inform provision
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills
• Strong organisational and record keeping abilities
