Working Pattern: 0.6 days - Designated SENDCO time with a small teaching commitment in the first instance. We can be flexible to suit candidate’s needs.

Houghton Conquest Lower School is a warm and welcoming school at the heart of a historic village. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCO) to join our passionate team. This is an incredibly exciting time for Houghton Conquest, we are currently on a transformative journey as we transition from a Lower School to a Primary School from September 2026.

About this Role

Our SENDCO is a valuable and key member of our team, playing a complex and specialist role within our learning community. Passion, drive, and determination are required to make a difference to our pupils. As well as an ability to lead on policy and practice, in conjunction with key stakeholders.

This important role will include overseeing targeted provision for children with additional needs, vulnerabilities, or barriers to learning. It will include the preparation of statutory paperwork, making appropriate referrals, working alongside professionals, supporting parents and families, as well as supporting school staff with quality first teaching and ensuring appropriate adaptations within the classroom are made.

We are looking for an excellent candidate who will:

  • Lead the school’s SEND strategy, ensuring high-quality, inclusive support that enables all pupils to thrive and make strong progress.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
  • Ensure statutory compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and Equality Act, maintaining robust policies, EHCP processes, and accurate reporting.
  • Champion inclusive teaching and learning by working with staff to embed adaptive, ambitious classroom practice across the curriculum.
  • Develop staff expertise through effective professional development.
  • Monitor outcomes and inclusion, using data to drive improvement, support smooth transitions, and ensure all SEND pupils access the full life of the school.
