What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with substantial teaching experience.
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENDCO) or willingness to complete it within 3 years.
  • Strong leadership experience in SEND, including managing interventions and tracking progress.
  • In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory compliance.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with multi-agency professionals (e.g., therapists, local SEND services).
  • Skilled in developing inclusive teaching strategies and supporting classroom staff.
  • Experience delivering staff training and leading whole-school SEND initiatives.
  • Ability to analyse and use data to inform SEND strategy and interventions.
  • Deep understanding of a broad range of SEND needs: Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, SEMH, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Committed to removing barriers to learning and improving outcomes for all students.
  • Capable of managing and developing support staff teams (TAs, HLTAs, Behaviour Mentors).
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive resources for student support.
  • Willingness to take a strategic and operational role in school-wide SEND development.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence, patience, and resilience in challenging situations.

This role sits within our leadership structure, reporting to the Assistant Headteacher for Additional Needs. As SENDCo, you will play a vital role in shaping and delivering outstanding SEND provision across the school, ensuring all students can access a high-quality, inclusive education.

The Role Involves:

  • Leading SEND provision across the school and ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice
  • Managing and developing a team of Teaching Assistants and support staff
  • Collaborating with teachers to embed inclusive teaching strategies
  • Working closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to secure the best outcomes for students
  • Ensuring high-quality EHCP implementation and reviewing processes
