What skills and experience we're looking for
Working as part of our Inclusion Team, the successful candidate will have high expectations of what all children can achieve. Regardless of barriers, they will believe that all children will thrive if given appropriate support.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience as a SENDCO but will definitely need extensive experience of working successfully to support pupils with special educational needs. They will hold or be willing to take, The National Award for SEN Co-ordination. This will form a large part of the CPD and support for personal growth in the role. In addition, there will be support from within the Inclusion Team and the wider Senior Leadership Team.
The key features of the role include:
- Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEN policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual students with SEN or a disability.
- Advising on a graduated approach to providing SEN Support.
- Liaising with parents of children with SEN.
- Liaising with other schools, external professionals and independent or voluntary bodies and being a key point of contact with external agencies.
- Liaising with potential next providers of education to ensure that pupils and their parents are informed about options and a smooth transition is planned.
- Working with the Headteacher and school governors to ensure that the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act (2010) with regard to reasonable adjustments and access arrangements.
- Monitoring and evaluating provision and progress.
- Working with staff supporting them to try a variety of teaching approaches with students in their class with SEN needs.
- Delivering intervention sessions to individuals or small groups.
