We are seeking to appoint an effective and professional SENDCO to promote a strong positive culture ensuring a safe, calm and purposeful environment for all.
You will be joining a dynamic and exciting team, creating a culture of outstanding success amongst our students.
The successful candidate will have knowledge and understanding of the commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people and up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance. The SENDCO will ensure that the academy meets its statutory commitment in relation to SEND, secure and manage SEND funding and assess and plan the academy SEND provision to ensure it meets the needs of all students, this will include the training and development of all staff. As a valued leader, you will use your sphere of influence to lead by example and consistently embody our high expectations at Westbourne Academy.

The appointed candidate will work collaboratively with other senior leaders and the Deputy SENDCo to ensure all aspects of SEND provision is planned, delivered and reviewed securing a strong and effective provision.

Westbourne Academy is a calm and happy school. We are an inclusive academy. We support all students, regardless of their starting point, to achieve their potential and develop the skills necessary for employment and life.
Westbourne Academy is not just a school it is a microcosm of the world with students and staff from all around the globe. Between them, they speak 32 languages and their differing perspectives on learning and life makes this a unique academy. We also have the pleasure of 30% of our students speaking English as an additional language and value the cultural diversity they bring.
We try not to take ourselves too seriously but know that preparing young people for the adult world is an important undertaking. Since opening as an academy on 1 February 2013, attitudes, aspirations and expectations have been transformed. Currently we have around 1000+ students. Many of our students do not have the easiest backgrounds and we are determined to ensure that we remove as many barriers to learning as possible. We are delighted that Ipswich has been deemed an opportunity area for the Department for Education and look forward to taking an active part in this initiative to tackle disadvantage.
