Job Summary:

Wadebridge School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Senior Assistant Headteacher with a strong commitment to fostering a positive school culture. The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic oversight of personal development operations, ensuring all students are supported to become the best version of themselves. This role will strategically lead on key areas including attendance, behaviour, and Personal Development (Including CEIAG).

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership:

  • Collaborate with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement the school’s pastoral strategy relating to personal development, attendance and behaviour.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations and achievement for all students that secures strong academic outcomes for all.
  • Lead on Quality Assurance of Pastoral Policies, Systems and Operations at Wadebridge School relating specifically to personal development, attendance and behaviour.
  • Regularly review and update the SEF and School Development Plan in relation to personal development, attendance and behaviour.

2. Pastoral Operations:

  • Oversee and enhance attendance strategies, ensuring as a school we are doing all we reasonably can to ensure all students attend school regularly and on time.
  • Lead initiatives to promote positive behaviour and conflict resolution among students.
  • Lead initiatives to promote a sense of pride, reward and recognition at Wadebridge School.

3. Personal Development:

  • Design and implement programs that support the personal, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Encourage student leadership and engagement in school life, promoting a sense of belonging and responsibility.
  • Strategically lead our CARE based values provision.
  • Oversee the delivery of Enrichment Programme supported by LP Enrichment and Enrichment mentors.
  • Strategic oversight of Careers provision (CEIAG) alongside Careers Lead and Careers Advisor including the continued development of community links through the Business Breakfast initiative.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Establish systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of attendance and behaviour initiatives and intervention (ABC Data Overview).
  • Use data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement in attendance, behaviour and personal development care.

5. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to personal development.
  • Lead training and professional development for staff on personal development, attendance and behaviour.

6. Community Engagement:

  • Build strong relationships with the local community and stakeholders to enhance support for students and families.
  • Promote and participate in school events that foster community spirit and student engagement.

7. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the overall leadership and management of the school, participating in strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Support the Headteacher and Senior Leaders in operational duties as required.
  • Line Manage allocated AHT’s and their area(s) of responsibility and accountability, Pastoral or Curriculum Areas.

Additional Duties:

o Attend and contribute to SLT, Trustees’, and other relevant meetings.

o Represent the school at external events and with partner agencies as required.

o Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Headteacher.

Person Specification:

Qualifications & Training

o Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

o Evidence of recent and relevant professional development in behaviour management, pastoral leadership, or student wellbeing.

Experience

o Substantial experience in a leadership or senior pastoral role in a secondary school.

o Proven impact in improving student behaviour, attitudes, and attendance across a large cohort.

o Experience of leading and developing staff teams, including appraisal.

o Successful impactful teaching experience in the secondary phase.

o Experience of working with vulnerable students and those with SEND or behavioural challenges.

o Experience of collaborating with external agencies (e.g., local authority, social services).

Knowledge & Skills

o In-depth knowledge of national and local policies relating to behaviour, attendance, safeguarding, and student welfare.

o Ability to analyse and interpret data to inform strategic decisions.

o High-level communication, organisational, and management skills.

o Ability to set clear expectations, hold others to account, and challenge underperformance.

o Ability to establish a positive ethos and high achievement for all students.

o Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Personal Qualities

o High expectations of self and others.

o Ability to inspire, motivate, and empower staff and students.
