Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy is located in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell, and in very close proximity to the centre of Birmingham. It is a slightly larger than average, 11–16 co-educational academy with approximately 1,200 students. It has grown over the last few years and is now full and oversubscribed in every year group for the seventh consecutive year. The academy’s reputation locally is excellent. OSCA was graded as a good academy, for the third time in 2023.

The academy has been recognised with a myriad of awards over recent years. These include the Investors In People Gold Award, The Quality In Careers Standard Gold Award, The Basic Skills Quality Mark, and the Artsmark Gold Award. This is a fantastic time to join the vibrant and caring learning community at OSCA. Its strong code of values guides its work and creates a secure and safe environment where all students can thrive and succeed. Staff are committed to ensuring every student reaches their full potential by having the highest aspirations and a commitment to both academic and personal excellence. Students speak positively about the “strong sense of community” at the academy and “the support they receive from the teachers”, with a Year 8 student describing life at OSCA as being part of “one big family.”

Our new colleague will also benefit from being part of Ormiston Academies Trust, one of the oldest and largest school trusts in the country. OAT’s vision is for all young people to have access to the highest academic, social and practical skills required to achieve their full potential. OAT support all staff so that they can enhance and develop their professional skills whatever their role within the trust.

We are seeking a highly motivated, passionate and supportive member of staff to join our busy pastoral team.

Overseen by the Senior Behaviour & Attendance Support Officer, the successful applicant will support the Head of Year; ensuring students’ attend school, are on time every day and are supported - ensuring their behaviour is demonstrating that they are ready to learn. You will take the lead in contacting parents/carers where children have been or who are absent from school, creating positive relationships and building trust between home and school. As a highly visible member of staff, you will ensure students are ready to learn by creating a culture of high expectation where students know the values and expectations of behaviour. You will be the first port of call in dealing with incidents of poor behaviour.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be approachable and able to build positive relationships with our young people and their families
  • Be organised and methodical in their approach to ensure all necessary checks and protocols are followed
  • Be actively engaged in their role, taking a positive and passionate approach to strive for the best support for our staff, students and families

Could you be the person we are looking for? If so, we would love to hear from you!

If you have any questions regarding the role or would like to arrange an informal tour of the academy, please contact Jayne Orme via email to ormej@ormistonsandwell.org.uk

Closing date for applications: 9:00am 13 January 2025. We would encourage early application as we may close and interview sooner.
