About this role:
As Senior Communication Support Worker, you will provide high-quality communication support to deaf students and staff through British Sign Language (BSL), Signed Supported English (SSE), note-taking, and other appropriate communication methods.
You will work closely with Teachers of the Deaf, school staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure students can fully access the curriculum and school life. You will also play a key role in managing the day-to-day deployment of support staff, organising specialist interventions, and contributing to the strategic development of the Deaf Support Department.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing communication support through BSL, SSE, note-taking, and other appropriate methods.
- Supporting deaf students' access to the curriculum and wider school experience.
- Planning and delivering targeted interventions for individuals and small groups.
- Coordinating the deployment of Communication Support Workers and Learning Support Assistants.
- Organising Speech and Language Therapy provision and liaising with external professionals.
- Supporting annual reviews and monitoring student progress.
- Contributing to the development of the Deaf Support Department and BSL curriculum.
- Working closely with parents, Teachers of the Deaf, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for students.
- Support the Head of Deaf Support in monitoring and developing the work of CSWs and support staff.
- Lead on the development and implementation of the BSL curriculum.
Inclusion and School Life
- Promote the inclusion and participation of deaf students throughout school life.
- Provide communication support for school events, educational visits, performances, and extracurricular activities, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Support positive behaviour and effective communication between deaf and hearing students and staff.
- Attend meetings, parents' evenings, and school events as required.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Excellent BSL skills and experience supporting deaf children and young people.
- Strong knowledge of inclusive educational practice.
- Leadership experience or the ability to lead and support a team.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to promoting inclusion and high achievement for all students.
