Senior Deputy Designated Safeguarding lead job summary
Key Responsibilities:
- Be a visible, trusted presence for staff and students during school hours.
- Lead on managing referrals and safeguarding cases, working closely with the DSL and external agencies.
- Support staff with early identification of risk and ensure effective interventions are in place.
- Oversee safeguarding records (CPOMS), ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.
- Act as a key liaison with safeguarding partners, attending and contributing to multi-agency meetings.
- Promote a whole-school approach to wellbeing, safeguarding training, and awareness.
- Champion the voice of the child and ensure their views are heard and acted upon.
What We’re Looking For:
- A safeguarding expert with strong knowledge of KCSIE, Section 17/47 processes, and multi-agency working.
- A confident communicator who can support, challenge, and lead with empathy and professionalism.
- Someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is committed to continuous improvement.

Chiltern Hills Academy is a Church of England, co-educational secondary school in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. There are circa 1025 students on the school roll, approximately 100 of whom study in the sixth form. Chiltern Hills Academy converted to academy status in 2011 and is jointly sponsored by the Diocese of Oxford and Buckinghamshire County Council.
We are situated in the market town of Chesham, Buckinghamshire in the Chiltern Hills, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated close to the M40 and the M25, Chesham is on the end of Metropolitan line of the London Underground and is 28 miles north-west of London. There is ample parking on-site. Renting here is cheaper than in central London and if you enjoy travelling, it takes about 40 minutes by car to Heathrow.
The Elgiva Theatre, Lowndes Park and an open-air heated swimming pool are just some of the many public amenities available in the town. Chesham is renowned for its community spirit and there are many recreational and community groups catering for the diverse and active population.
